Please join MAMA Seattle for a virtual lunch seminar on Thursday October 10, 2024, 12-1 p.m., on Improving Your Professional Brand! Besides updating your resume and preparing a good cover letter, what other things can you do to strengthen your candidacy before applying for an opportunity? Hiroko Piraza, Senior Manager of Lawyer Talent Acquisition & Outreach at Davis Wright Tremaine, will share tips on how to improve your professional brand on LinkedIn, best practices on virtual networking, and more. Mariah Watson, DWTSurge Recruiting Manager, will describe DWTSurge and share what she and her team look for in a candidate and opportunities that might be good for those who are considering returning to work.
Hiroko Peraza (she/her)
Hiroko Peraza is the Senior Manager of Lawyer Talent Acquisition & Outreach at Davis Wright Tremaine LLP, based in the Portland office. Hiroko’s mission is to tell DWT stories so that people in our community can visualize their own unique path to success at DWT. Using her over a decade of experience in law student and lateral attorney recruiting, and collaboration with multiple departments and leaders across the firm, Hiroko strategizes and executes talent attraction events and programs to recruit top talents for DWT’s lawyer, Surge, and staff opportunities firmwide. Hiroko also serves as the primary contact for recruiting related external relationships with clients, minority bars, and student groups across the country. Hiroko is the President of the Oregon Legal Recruiting Association (OLRA), a board member of the Oregon Diversity Legal Job Fair and the Northwest Minority Job Fair in Washington.
Mariah Watson is the DWTSurge Recruiting Manager. Since joining DWT in 2019, she has worked alongside DWTSurge Program Director Ginni Chen to educate attorneys about an alternative path to practicing in BigLaw. Through Davis Wright Tremaine’s alternative-track contract attorney and staffing program, DWTSurge, attorneys can practice without the pressures of billable hours or business development.
Based in Seattle, Mariah stays current with talent trends in the legal community and is actively involved in NALP and local talent acquisition and sourcing nonprofit groups throughout the Puget Sound. She has leveraged the MAMA Seattle network to broadcast job openings, and several attorneys within the DWTSurge Program are members of MAMA Seattle.
DWTSurge attorneys engage in substantive work, often at the same level as mid to senior-level associates, with DWT’s largest clients. DWTSurge offers the benefit of large law firm support and interesting, ongoing work, while also offering a variety of flexible options. DWTSurge attorneys value the program's flexibility, which lets them spend more time with their families, pursue interests outside of work, and maintain a sustainable, less stressful quality of life.
