Kristina Silja Bennard is VP, Associate General Counsel, Litigation & IP, at Avalara, a private-equity backed SaaS company that provides tax compliance software to over 40,000 businesses worldwide. She has practiced law for 24 years, including in private practice (at a big, medium, and small law firm) and in-house (previously at Expedia and Boeing). In her current role, there seems to be no typical day—and she often feels like a junior attorney having to figure something out for the first time. Of note, Kristina once walked through a blizzard to get to the office to meet a filing deadline. Kristina has a law degree from Harvard and an undergraduate degree from Stanford. In her spare time, she teaches a class to Executive MBA students at Seattle U and serves on the Board of the Union Arts Center (formerly Seattle Shakespeare Co.). She is the very proud mother of a teenage daughter who, at just 16 years of age, already knows everything. Said daughter also wants to be an attorney and, happily, still enjoys traveling and adventures with her mom. Kristina has the best dog in the world; he looks like Chewbacca. Finally, Kristina uses ChatGPT often, but she did not use AI to write this bio. You can find her at linkedin.com/in/ksbennard

Angie Jones is a partner at Perkins Coie.  She represents clients in investigations around the world, defends clients in government investigations and litigation, and works closely with counsel in foreign jurisdictions to defend multi-national clients.  Angie advises companies on the creation, implementation, and continual improvement of corporate compliance programs.  Angie also maintains an active civil litigation practice and serves as a deputy general counsel to Perkins Coie, advising firm lawyers on professional responsibility issues and advising the firm on legal matters and claims against the firm.  On a personal level, Angie is mom to three, two of whom she had in law school (both of whom are now out of the house!) and a third who was born after Angie had been practicing for 10 years.  Although she doesn’t always get it quite right, Angie has lots of thoughts on time management for busy working mothers!

Kristin Silverman is a partner at Mayer Brown.  In her litigation practice, Kristin defends companies across a broad range of complex disputes, with a focus on consumer class actions and mass tort litigation. Many of her clients in these matters are leading technology companies. Kristin has represented technology companies in connection with issues related to artificial intelligence, digital advertising, search tools, social media, gaming, and devices.  Kristin previously practiced at Calfo Eakes, before that firm combined with Morgan Lewis.  Kristin’s kids are 11 and 13.

Moderator:

Theresa DeMonte is a partner at McNaul Ebel in Seattle.  She has a diverse litigation practice handling a variety of matters including business and property disputes, employment claims, and professional negligence matters.  She devotes a significant portion of her practice to appeals.  She is involved in the legal community as the president of MAMA Seattle, a co-chair of the Appellate Practice Committee for the M3 Federal Bar Association, and a member of the William L. Dwyer American Inn of Court.  She had her children before, during, and after law school.
