Please join MAMA Seattle for our upcoming lunch seminar panel on The Lawyer Mom Playbook: Building a Law Firm and a Life. Opening a law firm is often about more than money or independence. For many lawyers who are moms, it is about creating a career that aligns with their values, family life, and long-term goals. In this panel discussion, three lawyer moms share the personal and professional reasons they chose law firm ownership, what surprised them most along the way, and how they manage the competing demands of managing a law practice and the busyness of family life. This session offers an honest look at entrepreneurship, ambition, and flexibility in the legal profession.

Alison DeGregorio (Moderator)

Alison DeGregorio is a transactional attorney with over twenty years of experience advising global corporations, high-growth startups, and mission-driven nonprofits. A seasoned solo practitioner and long-time outside counsel to large corporations, her practice as an attorney spans complex commercial transactions, advertising law, regulatory and privacy compliance, technology transactions, intellectual property, product counseling, and publishing and entertainment. Her work includes advising on high-visibility marketing campaigns, substantiating product claims, negotiating complex tech transactions and IP agreements, product counsel, and coordinating cross-functional guidance for her clients across privacy, product safety, competition, risk management, and public relations. Alison is licensed in New York and Washington.

A native of Seattle – born at Swedish Medical Center on First Hill – she grew up and graduated from high school in Federal Way. Alicia graduated magna cum laude from Seattle University where she obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science.

Darcel Lobo (Panelist)

Darcel is a coach and consultant for lawyers, helping them run successful law firms in a way that fits into how they want to live their lives. As a law firm owner since 2016, and a mom of two young children, I understand how easy it is for lawyers to prioritize their work, their clients, and their families, but put themselves on the backburner. I approach my coaching and consulting practice by looking at the attorney as a whole person and bringing a sense of humanness to the legal profession.

Shashi Vijay (Panelist)

Shashi is the Managing partner and owner of VJ LAW FIRM in Redmond, which provides fractional general counsel and business litigation services to technology companies and startups. Shashi also serves as part-time Senior Corporate Counsel with Argano LLC and has extensive experience in negotiating commercial contracts with Fortune 100 and Fortune 500 tech companies.

Shashi earned her J.D. from Seattle University School of Law and is admitted to practice in State and Federal district courts. Shashi is the current President of the South Asian Bar Association (SABAW), a member of the King County Board of Trustees and serves on the MAMAS Board as Co-Director of DEI and Mentorship subcommittees. Shashi has served as past Chair of the WSBA Solo and Small practice section and is the current Chair of the KCBA Corporate Counsel Section. In addition, Shashi is an active participant of various groups such as Washington Women Lawyers, Joint Minority Member Association, and the Seattle University alumni network.

Shashi was born and raised in India and outside of work is a busy mom raising her 17-year-old son and 13-year-old daughter and loves spending time outdoors and travelling with her husband and kids.
